Just confirmed by NASA: the Artemis 2 crew will travel a maximum of 252,757 miles (406,773 km) from Earth, officially surpassing the record set by Apollo 13 back in April 1970, which stood at 248,655 miles (400,171 km).
That’s over 54 years that Apollo 13 has held that record. And let’s not forget, Apollo 13 didn’t set that record intentionally. It was a result of the famous emergency that nearly cost the crew their lives.
Now Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen are about to write a new chapter in human spaceflight history, this time on purpose, and on their way around the Moon.
What do you think, does this milestone get enough attention compared to the Moon landing itself? And how do you feel about the fact that it took us 54 years to push the boundary further?
